Tips to Convert Twitter Traffic

You see other bloggers killing it on Twitter, and you want some of that success for yourself, but you don’t know where to start. The platform already seems super noisy and has experts on every topic known to man. So what can you do to stand out? You might worry that you need a sophisticated Twitter strategy, but don’t stress. If you focus on a few simple tactics, you’ll easily tap into a community that will support your work and drive the traffic your content deserves. And even if you don’t have tons of followers just yet, you can make the most of those you do have, and start to get on the radars of the influencers that matter. Regardless of whether you’re a big fish or a tiny minnow in the Twitter pond, you can use the following tactics to get more traffic for your content today.

1. Know your audience.

Growing your traffic always starts with your audience if you want to do it right. Untargeted, uninterested “hits” are a waste of time and resources at worst, and at best just pure vanity. This means that driving traffic starts with listening and observing. Get to know your target so you can most efficiently engage them. Twitter has a tool for this. Use search.twitter.com to find what people in your niche are talking about and follow some of their conversations. Once you get an idea of what people are interested in, join in those conversations and talk to people.

2. Tweet the link more than once.

Tweeting a link to your blog more than once is 100% okay, especially if the content is evergreen. What’s the sweet spot here? Well, you don’t want to flood your Twitter timeline with the same content repeatedly. But on the day of publishing, craft 3-5 separate tweets that you’ll publish at different times. This tactic works well because only a small portion of your followers will see each tweet.

3. Make your twitter profile interesting.

Your profile and your username are the first two things your visitors will see when they go to your Twitter page. If your profile looks boring, people won’t bother to read your tweets, not to mention visit the links you post in them. You can’t write a very long bio of yours, but you can enter a few words about you. You can also include a couple of keywords in your bio.

4. Keep good company.

Think of Twitter as the digital version of your neighborhood or city. Follow the businesses on your block or in your area and talk to them on Twitter. You could Retweet them to your followers and ask them to do the same with theirs. People who are already on your block or regularly shop at nearby stores are just feet away from your business. If they see businesses they like having conversations with you, it could convince them to step inside your store front the next time they’re around. Follow local figures and influencers and invite them to your store. Converse with them like you would a friendly, promotional partner.

5. Implement twitter cards.

You want every tweet you send to stand out and Twitter cards are a great way to do this. You can set up your website to make sure that when people share your posts, the image shows up in the tweets they send.
